Seeing the Light
"Just remember this ... when you look
up in the sky,
You can see the stars and still not see the
light."
— Already Gone
If you wish to see the Light, then look within you. The Light is within. The Truth is within. The outer world consists of layer upon layer of illusions, misperceptions, and misdirection. All of this must be bypassed in order "to see the light."
There are basically four different approaches to "dealing with" problems in life. One is based upon awareness and the rest are based upon denial. Awareness and denial are opposites. Denial, the most common means of dealing with problems, is a process of making yourself unaware that problems exist. This is the basis of almost all self-destructive and limiting patterns of behavior. Unfortunately, it is easier to deny that problems exist by somehow making yourself unaware of their unpleasantness — by drinking, smoking, eating, drugs, sex, etc. — than it is to actually face problems and deal with them. In our social-cultural environment we have been largely trained (conditioned) to move in the direction of increasing comfort and pleasure, and away from "upset" or hurt or pain. And, it hurts to see the truth. As a result, we live in a society that is based upon denial, that is obsessive and addictive, that prefers its illusions, superficial appearances, and false reassurances to the truth.
A better approach to solving problems and dealing with life properly, is to become more aware, overcome the habitual mechanism of denial, and eradicate self-limiting or self-destructive patterns of behavior. Consciousness takes you higher; denial and self-limiting conditioning take you lower, on a spiral of self-destruction. If you are not aware, and you live in your illusions and denial, you will be the last to know you have failed — you have failed to be a truly conscious being, with true inner awareness, inner-directedness, a true sense of purpose, creative self-expression, and a commitment to doing what is right, good, and true regardless of personal gain or loss. This sheds light on what it means to overcome in life, to surrender to the Higher Being and not to problems; otherwise, life is for naught.
This worldly life is quite transient, superficial, and misdirected. People are content to have their entire life be a product of their society and their environment. Only those who dare to question the meaning and value of life have the courage to look more deeply within them for the answers.
Almost everything in this world is designed to draw your attention outward, to keep you from connecting with your true Source, within. Meditation, the process of turning within, is an essential means of learning to manage in this world. This is accomplished by learning to look within your self for your own answers, drawing upon your true inner spiritual being, unfolding the spiritual qualities within you, and overcoming the incessant bombardment (or attack) of the outer world upon your inner being. You must learn to come back to, and come from, a place of true peace, joy, and love, within you — and learn to remain there no matter what happens outside you. This, in itself, is a solution to most problems that may affect you. read more ...
