Intuition
"Believe nothing and be on your guard against everything."
— Latin proverb
Have you ever wondered what intuition is, if you have it, and if it is valid or reliable? Well, here's the good news about intuition: we all have it, and it can help us to know what is right, good, and true for us. Here's the other good news about intuition: it also lets us know what is not right, good, and true. That's the catch. Some people don't want to know what is wrong, bad, or false in their lives; they would rather just not know. And so, they shut out intuition completely. Or they may have been so conditioned to think that intuition is not real, that they are not aware of it. Or they do not recognize intuition for what it is, and don't know what to make of occasional feelings, impulses, pulls, images, sensations, or ideas that pop into their head, or feel in their body. In many cases, intuition is suppressed in people. And, if you don't learn to recognize it, and learn to trust it and act in accordance with it, intuition remains dormant and of little use.
There is a secret about intuition, which society disregards: every great thinker throughout history, from philosophers to scientists to spiritualists, has been deeply intuitive. That is how they get their sense of what must be true, within them. Of course, you are never taught this in school. You are taught that they arrive at their ideas by rational analysis, reasoning, deduction, and logic. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Intuition is inner knowingness, a realization of Truth within you — which does not depend upon anything outside you. It is seeing beyond appearances or the surface of things, penetrating to the otherwise often unknowable truth. Women are said to be intuitive because they are often more attuned to or accepting of inner feelings than men. Like most things of spiritual value, intuition has been condemned as being unscientific or irreligious. Women have been tortured and burned at the stake, because they demonstrated some inner knowing or were merely suspected of being more aware or independent in their thinking. Those who have inner awareness — who see beyond appearances, — are often condemned by society for being irrational, or worse. But, if you allow society to dictate what is "true" to you, and override your intuition or conscience, you may only suffer more in the end.
Intuition is a quiet or even silent inner voice. And yet you can "hear" it or feel it if you pay attention, if you listen carefully. Some people do hear something that approximates a little voice, commenting on what they observe outside; the small, still voice may say something like, "No, that's a lie. I am being lied to. I can just feel it. Watch out. Beware." Have you ever heard that little voice when you went to buy a new or used car? When you met someone, or, perhaps, saw a stranger, and you knew there wasn't something quite right about them? When you were talking with someone and you realized they had no idea what they were talking about, or they were lying to you? read more ...
